CNC Machining

The competition tasks of this skill category are based on the Vocational qualification in mechanical engineering and production technology. The qualification titles of the basic qualification are automation assembler, mechanical fitter, machinist, plater-welder and maker of plastic and rubber products.

The professionals who have completed this qualification work according to the competence area for example in machine shop of a company in machine and metal industry, workshop, at yard, in repair shops or in factory in different kinds of installation, automation and assembling tasks as well as filling and maintenance of machinery.

Description of the skill

Machinists can make components of machines and other parts of metal or other machinable materials work-safely by means of different kinds of machining methods. The parts are manufactured with the computer-controlled lathing machine and machining centre. Programming is carried out with the help of CAD/CAM program.

Machinists are mainly employed by machine shops and metal workshops or as independent entrepreneurs. The profession requires knowledge of machining techniques and materials as well as accuracy, diligence, cooperation skills and considering the principle of sustainable development.

The competition is individual. 

Skill requirements

The skill requirements are based on the Vocational qualification in mechanical engineering and production technology, on the requirements and criteria of ”Excellent”, as well as the requirements of working life for a young worker. The most important areas are CNC lathing, CNC milling, CAD/CAM programming and parts of the machine shop measurements-study unit.
